We drove on Hwy 395 and went past Reno, The Biggest Little Town in the West. We were able to make it out of Nevada with the folks still married. After 51 days together in this RLB that is an accomplishment not to be taken lightly.
From 395 we took Hwy 44 and that is where we found snow. Hwy 44 and 89 took us over the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the Cascade Mountains. We got up past 6000 feet and there was at least 3 to 4 feet of snow on the sides of the road. Fortunately the roads were clear and we had no problems. We did get a little rain, which was to be expected since we are getting closer to home.
Today we drove 287 miles and Dad got 11.4 mpg and he also paid an all time high for diesel, $4.49. Boy was he happy .
We set up camp in Yreka, California.
Tomorrow we will be back in Oregon. I can smell the rain from here.

Hi Weezie,
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to the Golden State. You will need a lot of gold to buy fuel. Sounds like a trip high for diesel. Seems like you might find a house in Nevada with a garage big enough for your Cougar. We like rain in SD so send some our way. Summer is around the corner and early next month Mom will bring some sunshine into your life. Taking a shortcut from your itinerary means you must be anxious to get home. Talk to you on a land line soon.
Chow,
