In their defense they did have to go to the post office and mail Mom's glasses to be fixed and get gas. But geez- 11:30?
We finally made it across Texas. Man how did those pioneers do it? It was about 880 miles from the West side of Texas to the East. Somedays I was doubtful we would make it. Today we went 225 miles and Dad got 13.1 mpg. Diesel prices are staying around $3.70 a gallon. Dad's pretty happy about that.
Today we are in Louisiana. My namesake. This is Gator country although we didn't see any gators we did see an armadillo. No more "Country Cowboy " now it is Cajun Swamp music. I'm doomed. It's really pretty here. Green like Oregon but with Bayous.
We are staying in Scott, La. It is near Lafayette. The weather is nice, 68 degrees and sunny. We are staying at a KOA here and it is real nice. There is a lake right out the back window. I even had some locals stop by to say hello.
We went out for dinner tonight because after all we are in Louisiana. We had shrimp, crawfish and Gumbo.
I'm starting to feel at home here.
Tomorrow New Orleans.
