"Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain".
Now I know where they got that from. Oklahoma has lots of flat land. And boy was it windy.
Dad was fighting a head wind most of the day which is why he was only gettin 9.4 mpg.
We drove on I 40 for about 305 miles through Indian Nation. We went through Sallisaw, Ok which is where they have the Trail of Tears. That is the trail the Indians travelled when they were sent to the reservations. Today it looks a little more like the Trail of Casinos.
We then went through Henryetta, Ok. The home of Troy Aikman. Woohoo.
Then we crossed the Chisholm Trail, which just made us want to watch a John Wayne movie and eat steak.
We arrived at the Elk Creek RV Park around 4:00 p.m. and I can't say it is one of my favorites. We are packed in here like sardines. Which isn't neccesarily a bad thing if you are a cat. Dad did grill us that steak though so it wasn't all bad. Now if I could just watch The Searchers.

Hi Weezie,
ReplyDeleteSounds like your chauffeurs (AKA fat cats) are making good progress. I know you will be happy to see your SLB. Apparently the prevailing winds are causing a drop in fuel mileage so hopefully the price per gallon is reasonable. The closer you get to the Golden State the higher the prices. We still have winter weather cloudy, rainy, and cold. It will probably meet you in Arizona so enjoy the sunny skies. The pictures on your blog remind me of my trip to Georgia on I-40. I kept wondering how the trip would be in a covered wagon and made me appreciate the sacrifices of the early settlers.
Chow,
Rmona
Jo and Eric, (Cougar and Sailor), and Weezie, quite a production here, state by state. Its important for you to know we are reading out here in the blogosphere. Most days Crystal reads your entry to me, and sometimes I get to see the photos. I enjoyed seeing Eric and Jack, but couldn't tell who was who. I hope you have been able to keep up with the gas mileage. -Brian
