Day Twenty / Spring Trip 2012

View of the Arch and Court House
What a day we had.
First we took the Metro from Scott AFB into St. Louis. It took about 45 minutes but it's pretty cool to just get on a train and head to the big city. A lot less stressful than driving.
Mom
We got off the metro and headed straight for the St. Louis Arch. It was awesome, spectacular and way higher than I expected. The Arch is the Gateway to the West. It was built to commemorate  the journey of Lewis and Clark and was completed in October of 1965.
It is 630 feet high and is the Worlds tallest Monument. We took a ride to the top in something that reminded me of the egg that Mork arrived on earth in (for all you Mork and Mindy fans). If that doesn't help you just let me say that I think my cat carrier is bigger. It only fits five people (and one cat) and we rode up with some nice people who one of them was the grandson of  one of the architects involved with the Arch. I don't I remember the whole story but I was pretty impressed with all his knowledge of the Arch.
After a short, cramped and little bit scary ride we got to the top and boy what a view. We could see all of St. Louis, the Mississippi River, Illinois and a great view of Busch Stadium. It was really something.
We then walked around the downtown area and went to Laclede's Landing. It is nine blocks of history with cobblestone streets and historic old buildings that now have restaurants and bars in them. We went for lunch at a place called Hannagans's and had "toasted ravioli's". That's a St. Louis specialty that is now my new favorite food. Beats the heck out of Fancy Feast.
Dad
We then walked over to Busch Stadium and checked out the Cardinals Team Store. Somehow Mom came away with another jersey and Dad got a hat and pennant.
The weather has been great so far. Hopefully it will stay that way, cause tomorrow is another busy day.
