Day 33 / Spring Road Trip 2012

Today we left my kittenhood home of Tennga, Ga and headed to Crossville, Tn which is about two hours north of Tennga and is on the Cumberland Plateau. The Cumberland Plateau is 1000 feet above the Tennessee River Valley and is the worlds largest hardwood forested plateau.  All that forested stuff sits on sandstone and shale that is over 500 million years old. A lot of the buildings in the area were made out of that sandstone and you can only get it there.
Now we didn't go there just to check out the stone. While we were driving through Missouri the folks got a call from an old Coast Guard buddy. They hadn't seen Alex and Diane for twenty five years and it turns out that they now live up there so we decided to make a slight detour and go visit them.
Mom and Dad had a great time reminicing with them about the good old days. Apparently they did a lot of partying back then.  I'm not sure I should have been hearing some of this stuff, especially the story about when Dad and Alex went to St Thomas together to work a job. Lets just say there was lots of rum involved and leave it at that.
We also got to meet Jack and Joe, the two terriers that let Alex and Diane live with them. I think Jack really liked Mom cause he kept trying to kiss her. When we got ready to leave Alex gave us a flag for the RLB. I will fly it proudly.
