Day 37 / Spring Road Trip 2012

The Great American Ball Park

Ohio River from the Park

Sunday, Mothers Day. For Mothers Day Dad took Mom to Cincinnati. Of course he took her to a Cincinnati Reds ballgame but hey what do you want. For Fathers Day Mom can take him shopping.

We had a rough start to the day cause it was raining but we had high hopes that it would stop before the game started.
We got to the Great American Ballpark at 11:00. Still raining. Nice ballpark right in the middle of downtown Cincinnati. and across from Paul Brown Stadium, home of the Cincinnati Bengals. We had time to walk around the outside of the park, it's right next to the Ohio River, and check out the riverboats. Finally we got to go inside. There is so much history with the Cincinnati Reds. Back in 1869 they were the first professional baseball team to pay their players and play a professional game.  The Big Red Machine as they were known in the 70's had "The Great Eight" (one of the greatest eight starting players in the game), Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Ken Griffey, George Foster, Davey Conception, Tony Perez and Cesar Geronimo.

Game time was 1310, however there was a rain delay (duh). We had time to go to the Reds Hall of Fame and time for Dad to finish his beer and then decide to buy Mom a new jersey (that makes three).
Finally after three and a half hours they decided to PLAY BALL. The game lasted almost four hours, during which time it never stopped raining. Most of the food vendors closed down but at least they kept the beer stands open. It was an okay game, rain and all, but it was only the last few minutes that really got us (and by us I mean Dad) glad that we waited it out. The Reds won the game on the last out when Joey Votto hit a grand slam base clearing home run.
We finally got back to the RLB ten hours later, quite soggy but everyone happy. Dad saw the park, Mom got a new jersey and I can finally go to sleep.
